Trump would’ve lost without me: Musk criticizes Trump’s ‘ingratitude’

Without me, Trump would’ve lost: Musk criticizes the US President for perceived ‘ingratitude.’ Elon Musk, amplifying his criticism of the Trump administration and its primary tax policy, asserted on Thursday that US President Donald Trump would not secure victory in the 2024 election “without me.” The CEO of Tesla further alleged that Trump exhibited “such ingratitude.” The comments follow Trump’s articulation of dissatisfaction with Musk, who has recently resigned from his position as the DOGE chief. The founder of Tesla has expressed strong criticism regarding the administration’s proposed tax policies, especially those affecting the electric vehicle sector.

Trump, addressing reporters on Thursday, indicated that Musk’s discontent may stem from the suggested cuts to EV tax credits. He expressed, “I’m very disappointed in Elon.” I have provided significant assistance to Elon. He expressed the most flattering sentiments regarding my character, and while he has refrained from making negative remarks about me personally, I anticipate that such comments may emerge in the future.

Musk promptly responded, indicating his willingness to accept reductions in EV incentives, provided that legislators also eliminate superfluous expenditures from the legislation — which Trump has praised as the ‘big beautiful bill’. “I’m fine with reducing the EV credits if lawmakers ‘ditch the MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK in the bill’,” Musk posted on X. “I’d rather have him criticise me than the bill,” stated Trump. In a recent address to the press from the Oval Office, Donald Trump remarked, “You know, I’ve always liked Elon.” I would prefer his criticism directed at me rather than the bill, as the bill is exceptional.

The US President remarked, “Elon is upset because we took the EV mandate, and you know, which was a lot of money for electric vehicles.” It is evident that the electric vehicle sector is facing significant challenges, and there is a push for substantial financial support from taxpayers in the form of subsidies amounting to billions of dollars. Regarding the elimination of tax credits for electric vehicles in the legislation, Trump remarked, “Elon knew this from the beginning.” He was aware of it … quite some time ago.

In reaction to Trump’s remarks, Elon Musk succinctly responded with “whatever” on X. He stated, “Maintain the EV/solar incentive reductions in the legislation, despite the fact that oil and gas subsidies remain untouched (which is quite inequitable!!), but eliminate the excessive wasteful spending in the bill.”
