Microsoft Exits Nscale Data Centre Deal Amid UK Power Delays

Microsoft has withdrawn from a data center agreement with British cloud provider Nscale, as reported by source on Sunday. The US tech giant, one of Nscale’s two largest customers, has recently terminated its agreement for the data center in Loughton, Essex, according to the report. A report indicated that Nscale has encountered multiple delays regarding the project. National power grid officials reportedly informed Nscale that they do not anticipate a power supply for the data center until the 2030s.

“Our relationship with Microsoft remains strong and long-term, and this unfortunate London-wide grid issue has no impact on our other contracts,” an Nscale spokesperson told. “We remain committed to both the Loughton project and the UK, and we are exploring alternative power sources for the site, in addition to other expansion sites in the UK.” Nscale submitted its application for an initial public offering in the United States last month, with Microsoft and Anthropic anticipated to be its primary clients, as outlined in its prospectus.

Nscale offers infrastructure that encompasses compute resources, power supply, and data centers, alongside software designed for the training and execution of AI models. The Nvidia-backed AI group, which competes against CoreWeave, Nebius, Crusoe, and Lambda, has experienced significant growth since its inception, expanding from $100 million to over $103 billion in total contracted value within a span of two and a half years.
