Crypto Market Holds Steady as Bitcoin Nears $79K

Global market sentiment has become volatile due to the August inflation reports, as the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy decision is due in less than a week. As markets absorbed the unexpected rise in monthly core inflation, anticipations for a rate hike from the Fed have escalated markedly. Cryptocurrencies, despite their intrinsic volatility, are sustaining a stable position above the flatline. The overnight plunge in crude oil prices has alleviated the market’s concerns regarding the Federal Reserve’s anticipated actions on September 16. Bitcoin exhibited volatility, oscillating between $76,296.50 and $79,695.70 in the past 24 hours. Ethereum exhibited volatility, oscillating between $2,438.53 and $2,653.07 during the designated period. Data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labour Statistics on Friday morning indicated that headline annual inflation remained unchanged at 3.4 percent, consistent with forecasts. The core component thereof decreased to 2.4 percent from 2.5 percent in July, aligning with market expectations. On a month-on-month basis, inflation increased to 0.4 percent from 0.1 percent in July, aligning precisely with market expectations.

However, the unexpected rise in its core component, which excludes the volatile food and energy prices, to 0.3 percent unsettled market sentiment. Markets had expected it to remain steady at 0.2 percent. The persistent core inflation resulted in a notable decrease in market expectations concerning a pause by the Federal Reserve on Wednesday. The CME FedWatch tool, which tracks the expectations of interest rate traders, currently suggests a 14.4 percent likelihood of the Federal Reserve opting for a pause on September 16. This figure indicates a decrease from 27.6 percent the previous day, 40.6 percent a week prior, and 51.6 percent a month earlier. Losses were limited as a result of the significant drop in crude oil prices, which can be attributed to diplomatic efforts focused on reducing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. Both Brent Oil and WTI crude oil are witnessing overnight declines surpassing 2 percent. Amidst the mixed signals, sovereign bond yields in the U.S. have displayed a diverse path. Long-dated thirty-year bonds have seen a decline of 0.58 percent overnight, whereas ten-year bonds have recorded a decrease of 0.16 percent. Yields on the shorter end of the curve, however, experienced a notable spike.

Five-year bond yields have risen by 0.17 percent, whereas two-year bond yields have experienced a significant increase of 0.86 percent. Amidst the resurgence of concerns regarding rate hikes, the cryptocurrency markets have adapted to the fluctuations in the U.S. dollar as well. The six-currency Dollar Index, which evaluates the strength of the U.S. Dollar against a selection of six currencies, currently stands at 98.97, reflecting a minor overnight decline of 0.08 percent. Overall cryptocurrency market capitalisation is currently at $2.65 trillion, while the 24-hour trading volume stood at $86.8 billion. Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency, is currently trading 2 percent higher on an overnight basis at $79,139.40. The leading cryptocurrency has experienced a decline of half a percent over the past week, maintaining year-to-date losses of 9.7 percent. Bitcoin Spot ETF products in the U.S. saw an increase in net outflows, reaching $283 million on Thursday, a significant rise from $120 million on Wednesday. ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF experienced net outflows amounting to $164 million. Bitcoin continues to hold the 13th position in the global ranking of all assets based on market capitalisation data. The leading cryptocurrency holds a ranking situated between Meta Platforms at 12th and Tesla at 14th.

Ethereum is experiencing an increase of 6.9 percent, currently valued at $2,614.55. The leading alternate coin has recorded a 5.9 percent increase over the past week. On Thursday, Ethereum Spot ETF products in the U.S. saw net outflows of $30 million, a notable shift from the net inflows of $35 million that were observed on Wednesday. The Fidelity Ethereum Fund recorded net outflows totalling $25 million. Ethereum experienced a 4-notch increase, securing the 59th position in the global ranking of all assets based on market capitalisation, as reported. The fourth-ranked BNB experienced a 3.3 percent increase overnight, bringing its price to $733.70. Fifth-ranked XRP, a cryptocurrency centred on payments, experienced a 2.5 percent increase overnight and is presently valued at $1.40. Weekly losses are roughly 1 percent. The price of 7th ranked Solana increased by 3.7 percent overnight, reaching $103.83. TRON, positioned 8th overall, is presently trading 0.5 percent lower at $0.3367. 9th ranked Hyperliquid is trading 2.4 percent higher on an overnight basis, at $82.99. Zcash, currently ranked 10th overall, experienced a 2 percent increase overnight, trading at $1,202.39.
