Bitcoin Maintains as US Inflation Data Encourages Rate Cuts
Although global markets reacted well to the lower U.S. producer price inflation numbers and the decline in global crude oil prices, cryptocurrencies still trade inside a restricted range on Thursday. Nasdaq, which is heavily weighted in technology and has surged nearly a percent, seemed to have different feeling than the cryptocurrency market. In spite of falling crude oil prices, falling government bond yields, and a weakening dollar relative to a basket of six currencies, cryptocurrency prices did not immediately begin to rise. Over the past day, the overall value of all cryptocurrencies has fallen by almost 25%, staying close below the flatline, but Bitcoin’s price has gone up little compared to yesterday. Near $63,768 right now, you can buy the main cryptocurrency. According to July’s data issued by the U.S. Bureau of Labour Statistics, producer price inflation stayed steady, surpassing market expectations of 0.2% and June’s fall of 0.1%. A decrease from 0.4% the previous month and lower than the market prediction of 0.3%, the core component thereof registered at 0.2%.
The relatively muted producer price inflation report has caused market participants to reevaluate their expectations for future rate hikes by the Federal Reserve, which has had a beneficial impact on cryptocurrency market sentiment. It was 59% the day before, and now 66% expect the Fed to take a break in September. Another change is that the probability of things staying the same in October is 51%, up from 45% the day before. When asked about a Fed rate hold in December, the markets had previously put the likelihood at just 25%. Expectations of a pause have been raised to 31% by the markets as neither the consumer nor producer price inflation figures showed any negative surprises. Still, more money is being pulled out of long positions than short ones. Crypto liquidations totalled $146 million; long positions amounted to $81 million, while short positions totalled $65 million, according to the 24-hour statistics. A total of $2.18 trillion was the overnight settlement for the crypto market capitalisation, a decrease of 0.17%.
