Anthropic chooses Nasdaq for planned October IPO
Anthropic PBC has selected Nasdaq as its listing venue in anticipation of a potentially record-setting initial public offering, as reported by a source familiar with the situation. The Claude chatbot maker is aiming to secure a fundraising amount equal to or exceeding that of SpaceX in an initial public offering, which may occur as early as October, according to sources. A Nasdaq listing would signify another achievement for the company this year, as four of the largest US IPOs have occurred on the exchange, including SpaceX’s record-setting $86.3 billion offering in June. SK Hynix Inc. followed a few weeks later after it raised $26.5 billion in a July debut.
Business Insider previously reported on Anthropic’s selection of Nasdaq. Both Anthropic and Nasdaq refrained from providing comments. Anthropic’s IPO preparations coincided with remarks from OpenAI Inc. CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, and Elon Musk on Saturday, all emphasising the necessity to decelerate AI development in light of the increasing risks associated with the technology. Altman stated in an interview that his company will not pursue an initial public offering this year, citing concerns regarding safety.
Anthropic was poised to conclude a $15 billion revolving credit facility earlier this month, as reported. The AI race has invigorated the IPO market, with US listings this year amassing $160.6 billion, excluding blank-check firms and other financial instruments, as per data. The data indicate that this is the highest amount raised in a year since 2021. Anthropic is poised to achieve annualised revenue exceeding $65 billion, reflecting an increase of more than sevenfold from its trajectory at the close of the previous year, as reported.
