Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang plans $150 billion Taiwan spending

Nvidia’s CEO stated on Wednesday that the chip company intends to allocate approximately $150 billion annually in Taiwan, describing it as the “epicentre” of the AI revolution and forecasting its status as the global tech manufacturing hub for the foreseeable future. Four years ago, and five years ago, Nvidia was allocating approximately $10 to $15 billion annually in Taiwan. Now we’re spending $100, going to $150 billion dollars in Taiwan each year,” Jensen Huang, chief of the $5 trillion chipmaker, said.

Huang addressed attendees at a launch celebration in Taipei for the chip company’s forthcoming headquarters in Taiwan, indicating that construction is set to commence this year with the goal of becoming operational by 2030. He did not specify a timeframe for the duration over which the company intends to allocate $150 billion for investment. The Taiwan headquarters will position Nvidia in closer proximity to TSMC, the preeminent contract chipmaker globally, which manufactures a significant portion of the advanced semiconductors driving the AI trend and serves as a key supplier to the US technology firm.

“Taiwan is booming,” Huang remarked during the celebration, which was attended by his parents, wife, daughter, and son, alongside approximately 1,000 employees. Taiwan stands at the forefront of the AI revolution. This is where the chips are produced, where packaging is developed, where systems are manufactured, and where AI supercomputers were designed. The number of partners we collaborate with in Taiwan is remarkable.
