Trump Cancels Pakistan Visit for US Envoys Amid Iran Tensions

US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday the cancellation of a scheduled visit by American envoys to Pakistan, where discussions related to Iran were anticipated to occur. In an interview, Trump stated that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would not be traveling to Pakistan for discussions related to Iran. Trump stated that it was not worthwhile to send a US delegation on an 18-hour journey when, in his view, Washington maintained a stronger position in the standoff with Tehran. He stated that Iranian officials could contact the United States at any moment if they desired to initiate dialogue. “I’ve informed my team not long ago that they were preparing to depart, and I stated, ‘Nope, you’re not making an 18 hour flight to go there.’”

We possess all the cards. “They can call us anytime they want, but you’re not going to be making any more 18 hour flights to sit around talking about nothing,” Trump stated in the interview. Subsequently, in a post on Truth Social, Trump remarked on the considerable confusion among Iranians regarding their “leadership”, stating that sending representatives from the US would have been, in his words, “a waste of time”. Nonetheless, he maintained the possibility for negotiations, stating that all Iran needs to do is simply “make a call”. And “I just cancelled the trip of my representatives going to Islamabad, Pakistan, to meet with the Iranians.”

Excessive time spent on travel, an overwhelming amount of work! “Besides which, there is tremendous infighting and confusion within their ‘leadership’,” he said, adding, “Nobody knows who is in charge, including them.” Furthermore, we possess all the cards, while they hold none! “If they want to talk, all they have to do is call!” The development occurred soon after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrapped up his visit to Pakistan and left on Saturday evening, as reported. During his visit, Araghchi engaged in discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir, as well as other senior officials, according to the report.

Araghchi’s trip occurs amid increased regional tensions, as Islamabad seeks to facilitate a second round of talks between the United States and Iran. Two US envoys were anticipated to arrive in Islamabad on Saturday for the discussions. The White House has chosen not to provide any comments regarding the timing of their upcoming visit.
