Musk’regrets’ Trump-related social media remarks, says ‘gone too far’

Elon Musk expresses regret over his social media posts directed at Trump, stating that he ‘went too far.’ Billionaire Elon Musk expressed regret regarding certain social media posts about US President Donald Trump following their public fallout last week. In a recent post on his social media platform X, Musk stated, “I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week.” They exceeded reasonable limits.
Musk’s response follows a recent exchange of heated remarks between the two most influential figures in the United States. Musk has expressed criticism of Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’, asserting that it constitutes a spending package likely to exacerbate the deficit and reverse the initiatives undertaken by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which he previously led. Musk articulated these points during a CBS interview, occurring merely a day prior to the conclusion of his tenure as a temporary government employee. Despite a prolonged silence on the matter, the conflict intensified following Trump’s remarks to reporters in the Oval Office, where he conveyed his dissatisfaction with Musk.
Events intensified when Trump issued a threat to terminate all government contracts with Elon Musk’s enterprises, including SpaceX. In response, Musk declared his intention to decommission SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft, which is presently the sole US vehicle capable of transporting astronauts to the International Space Station. His enterprises, encompassing Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink, have played a pivotal role in significant US government initiatives. The relationship between Elon Musk and Donald Trump became prominent following Musk’s endorsement of the Republican President in the 2024 election campaign, during which he contributed an estimated $277 to $288 million, positioning him as the largest political donor.
In the wake of Musk’s financial contributions and backing of Trump, specifically, and the Republican Party, broadly, Musk was designated as the leader of DOGE, an organization created to reduce federal expenditures. Trump extended his support to Musk during the latter’s entanglements with political controversies. Tesla’s showrooms and charging stations experienced acts of vandalism, coinciding with a significant decline in car sales.
