Bill Gates reveals Epstein’s blackmail intentions to Congress

Bill Gates informed US lawmakers that he suspected Jeffrey Epstein may have been contemplating blackmailing him, as per transcripts made public on Tuesday by the House Oversight Committee. In closed-door testimony on June 10, Gates contested specifics that Epstein documented in emails to himself concerning the Microsoft Corp. co-founder’s extramarital affairs. He stated that Epstein, a disgraced financier and sex offender who died in a New York jail in 2019, was potentially attempting to utilise that information, including “literally dozens of false things,” for leverage. “I was not blackmailed,” Gates informed the committee, yet “as you examine these emails, it appears that Mr. Epstein’s brainstorming was trending in that direction.” Gates indicated that he confronted that possibility with Epstein directly, particularly as he sought to sever ties with him. Gates acknowledged the affairs; however, he stated that he had no connection to the women through Epstein.

Gates has consistently asserted that he possessed no direct awareness of Epstein’s offences involving underage victims. “There was the veiled type of language, hey, we should all want to be friends,” Gates stated. “I addressed that matter directly and stated, if you believe you will secure additional funds from this, it is not going to occur, and if that leads you to engage in discussions with others, I will simply endure the consequences and manage the situation.” Numerous enquiries focused on the involvement of Epstein in facilitating an exit arrangement for Boris Nikolic, a key advisor to Gates. Gates indicated that Epstein had solicited philanthropic donations in his name, a request Gates stated he had made clear he would not fulfil. The inclusion of the Microsoft co-founder — at the time one of the world’s richest men — in Epstein’s orbit illustrates his extensive influence within the upper echelons of finance, technology, and academia. In addition to Gates, the committee investigating Epstein’s crimes has also sought testimony from Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, Apollo Global Management co-founder Leon Black, and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. General Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler.

Gates has acknowledged engaging in several extramarital relationships during his marriage to Melinda French Gates, which played a role in their divorce following 27 years of union. “These affairs had nothing to do with my interactions with Epstein, but they were painful for my family,” Gates stated in the prepared testimony. “As the public can now see, based on what has been released in the files, Epstein was working to use information about my infidelities — in addition to many lies that he layered on top — to pressure me to re-engage with him.” A spokesperson indicated that Gates valued the chance to testify and endorses the complete disclosure of documents pertaining to Epstein, following the release of the transcript. The spokesperson noted that Gates addressed every inquiry for nearly six hours, and “with the full, unredacted transcript now publicly available, everyone can review the details for themselves.”

In his testimony, Gates stated that he had met with Epstein between 12 and 14 times, in addition to two Skype calls, over a span of four years. Epstein passed away while in custody, pending trial on federal charges related to sex trafficking of minors. Authorities have classified the death as a suicide. Representative Emily Randall, a Washington State Democrat and member of the Oversight Committee, stated that the panel’s objective was to achieve justice for the survivors. Upon exiting the hearing room where Gates provided testimony earlier this month, she remarked that this necessitates scrutinising individuals who may not have been directly involved in Epstein’s offences, yet in certain instances were “willing to turn away” from what ought to have been red flags. “Mr. Gates has been forthcoming and cooperative in answering questions, but I think some of his answers reveal that many of the men who engaged with Jeffrey Epstein perceived their interactions through a selective lens,” Randall said.
