AI Agents and Tokenized Assets Fuel a New Crypto Market Shift
Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies have faced significant challenges throughout 2026, as the prevailing trend in artificial intelligence investments persists. However, a substantial market downturn could potentially alter the dynamics of bitcoin pricing. The bitcoin price has rebounded from under $60,000 in July, soaring to over $80,000, while these smaller cryptocurrencies have outperformed it and are expected to continue their ascent. Currently, BlackRock has indicated that the bitcoin and crypto “floodgates” have unexpectedly opened. One of the most formidable and impactful entities on Wall Street has asserted that the crypto market is now at a “inflection point”-potentially excluding assets such as bitcoin, ethereum, and Ripple’s XRP.
According to analysts, artificial intelligence agents and crypto-based tokenised assets have ushered in a new paradigm of fundamental crypto investing. In their 79-page report titled Breaking the Wall, they assert that the forthcoming wave of agentic finance will be constructed atop blockchains. “The blockchain industry has spent fifteen years building something that looks surprisingly useful in an agentic world: always-on, programmable financial infrastructure where assets, ownership and settlement can co-exist” in an already converging world, Citrini’s analysts who sent shockwaves through equity markets earlier this year with their warning of a 2028 global intelligence crisis earlier this year, wrote.
“AI agents move programmatically, 24/7, across applications, and it’s only logical that money and financial assets eventually will, too … this brings us back to an industry that, for most of the last decade, has looked like a solution in search of a problem: Crypto.” The remainder of the portfolio consists of smaller yet recognisable cryptocurrencies, including Solana, a competitor to Ethereum, Hyperliquid’s liquidity protocol, Aave, and the synthetic dollar protocol, Ethena. Additionally, it includes lesser-known coins associated with crypto platforms such as Aerodrome, Maple, Pendle, and Ondo Finance.
Over the past year, derive has surged by 1,300%, while other assets on the list have predominantly experienced double-digit percentage increases, significantly outpacing bitcoin, ethereum, and XRP. The researchers also highlighted the enhanced regulatory landscape for technology, finance, and cryptocurrency, alongside the Iran oil crisis, which has propelled the decentralised exchange Hyperliquid’s around-the-clock derivatives trading linked to crude oil prices. “Since then, [real-world asset] adoption has really shifted into higher gear,” the report authors wrote. “We’ve seen massive moves starting to happen across crypto in the past month, marking what appears to be an inflection point.”
