Amazon eyes $7 billion acquisition of AI startup Decart
Amazon is reportedly engaged in discussions to acquire AI startup Decart, with the transaction estimated to be valued at approximately $7 billion, according to a report. Decart’s Lucy model, supported by Nvidia, is capable of editing live video in real time, as stated on the company’s website. It has also developed Oasis, a model that creates simulated environments for the training and testing of robotics and autonomous-driving systems.
The source reported that Decart was valued at nearly $4 billion in May, citing data. Amazon refrained from providing comments outside of standard business hours, whereas Decart did not reply to enquiries for comment. A deal could materialise shortly if negotiations remain intact or if an alternative bidder does not surface, the report indicated.
Last month, Anthropic opted against pursuing an acquisition of Decart following its due diligence process, as reported by source. It had explored a potential $6 billion deal in August, the report added. Decart secured $300 million in May through a funding round spearheaded by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia participating as a new investor.
