Nvidia Targets Larger Share in AI Startup Reflection

Nvidia is in discussions to enhance its investment in open-source startup Reflection AI or potentially acquire it, according to a report. Discussions are in preliminary phases, and a potential agreement may manifest in various structures, such as an acqui-hire arrangement whereby Nvidia would engage personnel and license technology instead of executing a complete acquisition, thereby potentially circumventing an extensive regulatory examination, according to the source.

An agreement could be reached in the coming weeks, according to the report, while adding that the discussions could still fall apart. Reflection declined to comment on the report, while Nvidia did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Nvidia is already a significant financial backer and strategic investor in Reflection AI, having invested $800 million in the startup, the source reported. Founded in 2024 by former DeepMind researchers Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou, Reflection is engaged in the development of tools aimed at automating software development, a rapidly expanding application of artificial intelligence.

Reflection’s chief executive, Laskin, informed that the Nvidia-backed startup was in the process of raising new capital at a pre-money valuation of $25 billion. The company on Monday launched its first open-weight model, Beam, as it aims to compete in coding and agentic tasks with lower-cost Chinese models such as DeepSeek and Kimi.
