The S&P 500 on Thursday closed lower on disappointment that the BOJ did not expand its easing measures after its policy meeting and on the +0.5% increase in U.S. Q1 GDP (q/q annualized), weaker than expectations of +0.7%. The stock market was also dragged lower by a -3% drop in Apple after billionaire investor Carl Icahn said he sold his stake in the company. Stocks received an early boost from M&A activity after Abbott Labs agreed to buy St. Jude Medical for $ 25 billion and Comcast agreed to buy Dreamworks SKG for $ 3.8 billion.

Jun T-notes on Thursday climbed to a 1-week high and settled higher on increased safe-haven demand for T-notes on weak stocks and on the weaker-than-expected U.S. Q1 GDP report of +0.5%. T-notes were undercut by the rise in the U.S. Q1 core PCE to +2.1%, above the Fed’s 2.0% target and the fastest pace of increase in 4 years.

The dollar index (DXY00 -0.42%) this morning is down -0.373 (-0.40%) at an 8-month low. EUR/USD (^EURUSD) is up +0.0042 (+0.37%) at a 2-week high.
