U.S. Market Indexes Higher with Voters Favoring Clinton

U.S. market indexes were higher on Tuesday. For the day the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 18228.30 for a gain of 133.47 points or 0.74 percent. The S&P 500 Index closed at 2159.93 for a gain of 13.83 points or 0.64 percent. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 5305.71 for a gain of 48.22 points or 0.92 percent. The VIX Volatility Index closed lower for the day at 13.05 for a loss of -1.45 points or -10.00 percent.

Tuesday’s Market Movers

U.S. stocks were higher Tuesday as the market digested comments from the presidential debate and investors favored Clinton.

On the economic calendar were the following reports: S&P Corelogic Case-Shiller HPI, PMI Services Flash and the Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index. The S&P Corelogic Case-Shiller HPI remained steady with 0 percent gain. The PMI Services Flash increased to 51.9. The Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index increased to 104.1.

In commodities, gold traded lower as evidenced by the SPDR Gold Trust which reported a loss of -0.93 points or -0.73 percent. The dollar was higher for the day as the U.S. Dollar Index gained 0.16 points or 0.17 percent to 95.47.

Small-Cap Stocks

In small-caps, the Russell 2000 Index closed at 1246.38 for a gain of 5.44 points or 0.44 percent. The S&P 600 Small-Cap Index closed at 751.34 for a gain of 1.26 points or 0.17 percent. The Dow Jones Small-Cap Growth TSM Index closed at 7581.37 for a gain of 38.94 points or 0.52 percent. The Dow Jones Small-Cap Value TSM Index closed at 8686.52 for a loss of -1.45 points or -0.02 percent.
