Trump proposes US takeover of Iran’s Kharg Island as tensions escalate

US President Donald Trump has suggested the possibility of American forces taking control of Iran’s Kharg Island, which serves as its primary oil terminal in the Persian Gulf. The remark made by Trump was featured in an interview. Perhaps we will take Kharg Island, or perhaps we will not. “We have a lot of options,” Trump stated. “It would also mean we had to be there (on Kharg Island) for a while.” When asked about Iranian defences there, he stated: “I don’t think they have any defence. We could take it very easily.” The US has already conducted airstrikes, stating that they targeted military positions on the island.

Iran has issued a warning regarding the potential for a ground invasion of Gulf Arab countries and further attacks should US troops set foot on its territory. Trump stated that the speaker of Iran’s parliament has given the green light for oil tankers to transit through the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow entrance to the Persian Gulf. The remark made by Trump during the interview serves as the most recent indication from the Americans regarding Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf’s significance within Iran’s theocracy. “They provided us with 10 Pakistani-flagged tankers,” he said. “Now they’re giving 20, and the 20 have already started, and they’re going right up the middle of the Strait.” Trump stated “He’s the one who authorised the ships to me.”

“Remember I mentioned that they are giving me a present?” And everyone said: “What’s the present?… When they heard about that, they kept their mouth shut, and the negotiations are going very well.” Qalibaf has exhibited a confrontational demeanor on his X account during the conflict, ridiculing the Americans and making threats. However, the former Revolutionary Guard commander has experienced an increase in prominence as high-ranking officials within the theocracy have been assassinated.
