Trump Claims Victory as US–Iran Talks Intensify
President Donald Trump stated that the US has emerged victorious in the war, asserting that Iran’s navy and air force have been entirely obliterated. During the Swearing-In Ceremony for the Secretary of Homeland Security, Trump remarked, “We’re in negotiations right now.” It is clear that they are eager to reach an agreement, and who could blame them if they were in that position? Observe, their navy has been dismantled, their air force has been eliminated, their communications have been disrupted. “I think we are going to end it. I cannot tell you for sure. We have won this… We literally have planes flying over Tehran and other parts of their country. They can’t do a thing about it. For instance, if I wanna take down that power plant, they can’t do a thing about it… They are totally defeated… Militarily, they are dead.” Trump emphasized that Iran will not possess any nuclear weapons. “We will have control of anything we want. If we can end this without more lives being lost, without knocking out $10 billion electric plants, that are brand new, the apple of their eye, I would like to be able to do that. They can’t have certain things. It starts with no nuclear weapons, and they have agreed to that. There won’t be any nuclear weapons. We are in about the best bargaining position. We are way ahead of schedule. They have no Navy, no Air Force and no missile protection,” he said.
On the rationale behind his discussions concerning negotiations with Iran in light of the ongoing West Asia conflict, Trump stated, “Because they are going to make a deal… They gave us a present yesterday, and it arrived today.” It was an exceptionally large gift valued at a considerable sum… It carried a noteworthy price, and they presented it to us, stating their intention to provide it. That signified one thing to me: that we are engaging with the appropriate individuals… It was connected to oil and gas… The leadership was eliminated. Everything is gone. Khamenei was entirely absent, as the expression goes, the former Supreme Leader. Then the new Supreme Leader was, at a minimum, experiencing significant challenges… A group of individuals has emerged in this situation. The gift they presented to us held great significance… They are the only ones who could have done it… It was connected to the flow, to the Strait (of Hormuz).” Trump stated that, nonetheless, he does not have faith in Iran. “I don’t trust anybody.” What leads you to mention trust? Do you believe I have faith in them? “I don’t trust them.”
Trump stated, “We have a new group, and we can easily do that, but let’s see how they turn out,” while asserting that the US has eliminated all of Iran’s leadership. “This marks a shift in the regime, as the current leaders differ significantly from their predecessors, who were responsible for creating numerous issues.” Regarding his decision to pursue a ceasefire in the ongoing West Asia conflict, Trump stated, “The fact that they are talking to us and they are talking sense.” It all begins with the assertion: they cannot possess a nuclear weapon. They inquired, what are the top 10? I stated that the first, second, and third points are that they cannot possess a nuclear weapon. “They have agreed that they will never have a nuclear weapon.” Trump stated that during discussions regarding negotiations with Iran in the context of the ongoing West Asia conflict, “Iran wants to make a deal.” Trump stated, “We are in negotiations right now… The other side would like to make a deal… All of the anti-aircraft and most of their missiles are gone… Today we were gonna have the privilege of shooting down a very big electric generation plant, one of the biggest in the world… We held off based on the fact that we are negotiating.”
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has sparked significant diplomatic speculation about a possible mediating role for Islamabad in the ongoing Washington-Tehran standoff, following his sharing of an official statement from Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The action comes in response to a post on X by Prime Minister Sharif, where he conveyed Islamabad’s readiness to support a diplomatic solution to the regional crisis. Sharif expressed that Pakistan was “ready and honoured” to facilitate “meaningful and conclusive talks” between the United States and Iran, contingent upon a mutual agreement from both parties. The unexpected diplomatic surge comes in the wake of President Trump’s recent announcement of a five-day halt on intended strikes targeting Iranian energy infrastructure.
