US Hunger Report Ends After Trump Cuts Food Assistance
The Trump administration is canceling the yearly report on hunger in America that is published by the federal government, claiming that it has become into a document that is overly politicized and that it contains a number of falsehoods. Two and a half months after President Donald Trump signed into law legislation that dramatically reduces food aid for the poor, this decision was made.
The Congressional Budget Office has estimated that the legislation that Republicans in Congress pushed through in July to slash taxes and spending will result in three million people losing their eligibility for food stamps, which are more generally known as SNAP benefits. On October 22nd, the United States Department of Agriculture is expected to release the 2024 report, which will be the last one ever published, according to a press statement that the department sent on Saturday. The United States Department of Agriculture stated that “the questions used to collect the data are entirely subjective and do not present an accurate picture of actual food security.”
The information is replete with falsehoods that have been intentionally manipulated in order to create a story that does not accurately depict the realities that are currently unfolding in the countryside, where we are observing a decrease in the poverty rate, an increase in earnings, and an increase in employment opportunities under the Trump Administration. According to reports, the poverty rate in the United States fell from 11 percent in 2023 to 10.6 percent in 2022, when Donald Trump assumed the presidency. This decline occurred earlier this month. The government was immediately accused by critics of deliberately making it more difficult to assess hunger and of conducting an evaluation of the repercussions of its decrease in food handouts.
Bobby Kogan, who serves as the senior director of federal budget policy, has made a statement on social media claiming that Donald Trump is going to discontinue the yearly government survey that analyzes hunger in the United States. This decision was made by Trump in order to prevent the survey from demonstrating that, under his presidency, hunger has increased in America. This is consistent with the methods that are utilized by several governments that are not democratic, which suppress or distort reports that have the potential to reveal information that is not positive.
