India : SGX Nifty Pointing Higher for Indian Stocks to Begin the Week

In opening market trading Monday, the SGX Nifty is higher by 5 points as stocks in Asia are trading mostly higher. On Friday, the SGX Nifty finished higher at 8565.50. The high for the SGX Nifty on Friday was 8620.00 and the low for the day was 8526.00. On Monday, the high resistance level for the SGX Nifty is 8705.67 and the low support level is 8423.67.

As a leading indicator for the NSE Nifty, the SGX Nifty is pointing higher for stocks in India on Monday. On Friday, stocks in India were lower. The NSE Nifty was lower at 8541.40 for a loss of -23.60 points or -0.28 percent. The BSE Sensex was also lower at 27836.50 for a loss of -105.61 or -0.38 percent. Sector trading in India was mixed on Friday.

Stocks leading losses included technology, consumer durables and healthcare. The S&P BSE IT Index was lower at 10608.4 for a loss of -599.49 points. The S&P BSE Consumer Durables Index was lower at 12249.11 for a loss of -49.64 points. The S&P BSE Healthcare Index was lower at 16060.49 for a loss of -0.18 points. Stock sectors leading gains on Friday included auto, banking and capital goods. The S&P BSE Auto Index was higher at 20423.77 for a gain of 195.15 points. The Bank Nifty Index was higher at 18953.65 for a gain of 89.9 points. The S&P BSE Capital Goods Index was higher at 15546.21 for a gain of 69.57 points. Stocks leading losses on Friday included Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services and NTPC Ltd.

In other Asian markets, stocks traded mixed. China’s Shanghai Composite was higher at 3054.30 for a gain of 0.28 points or 0.01 percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index was higher at 21659.25 for a gain of 98.19 points or 0.46 percent. Japan’s Nikkei was higher at 16497.85 for a gain of 111.96 points or 0.68 percent.

In Europe, stocks were mostly lower. The Stoxx Europe 600 was lower at 337.92 for a loss of -0.58 points or -0.17 percent. The Stoxx Europe 50 was higher at 2868.19 for a gain of 0.07 points or 0.002 percent. France’s CAC 40 was lower at 4372.51 for a loss of -13.01 points or -0.30 percent. Germany’s DAX was lower at 10066.90 for a loss of -1.40 points or -0.01 percent. The FTSE 100 was higher at 6669.24 for a gain of 14.77 points or 0.22 percent. The FTSE 250 was lower at 16727.27 for a loss of -60.77 points or -0.36 percent.

In the U.S., the leading stock indexes were mixed with the Dow Jones Industrial Average setting a new high on Friday. For the day the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 18516.55 for a gain of 10.14 points or 0.05 percent. The S&P 500 was lower for the day closing at 2161.74 for a loss of -2.01 points or -0.09 percent. The Nasdaq Composite also closed lower at 5029.59 for a loss of -4.47 points or -0.09 percent.

Other notable stock indexes included the small-cap Russell 2000, higher at 1205.31 for a gain of 3.14 points or 0.26 percent; the S&P 600 closing at 740.72 for a gain of 1.26 points or 0.17 percent; the S&P 400 Mid-Cap Index closing at 1543.63 for a loss of -0.43 points or -0.03 percent; the S&P 100 closing at 955.92 for a loss of -0.71 points or -0.07 percent; the Russell 3000 closing at 1275.33 for a loss of -0.70 points or -0.05 percent; the Russell 1000 closing at 1196.54 for a loss of -0.96 points or -0.08 percent; and the Dow Jones U.S. Select Dividend Index closing at 625.84 for a gain of 1.98 points or 0.32 percent.
