As a leading indicator for the NSE Nifty, the SGX Nifty is pointing lower for stocks in India on Friday. On Thursday, stocks in India were higher. The NSE Nifty closed at 8337.90 for a gain of 1.95 points or 0.02 percent. The BSE Sensex closed at 27201.49 for a gain of 34.62 points or 0.13 percent. Sectors leading gains included healthcare, banking and consumer goods. The S&P BSE Healthcare Index was higher at 15971.46 for a gain of 179.97 points. The Bank Nifty Index was higher at 18084.9 for a gain of 80.65 points. The S&P BSE Fast Moving Consumer Goods Index was higher at 8563.35 for a gain of 78.3 points.
Stocks leading gains for Thursday included Claris Lifesciences Ltd. after a new drug approval, Insecticides India and Punjab National Bank.
In other Asian markets, China’s Shanghai Composite was higher at 3016.85 for a loss of -0.45 points or -0.01 percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index was higher at 20706.92 for a gain of 211.63 points or 1.03 percent. Japan’s Nikkei was lower at 15276.24 for a loss of -102.75 points or -0.67 percent.
In Europe, stocks were mostly higher. The Stoxx Europe 600 was higher at 322.12 for a gain of 3.36 points or 1.05 percent. The Stoxx Europe 50 was higher at 2760.74 for a gain of 24.75 points or 0.90 percent. France’s CAC 40 was higher at 4117.85 for a gain of 32.55 points or 0.80 percent. Germany’s DAX was higher at 9418.78 for a gain of 45.52 points or 0.49 percent. The FTSE 100 was higher at 6533.79 for a gain of 70.20 points or 1.09 percent. The FTSE 250 was higher at 15898.81 for a gain of 229.10 points or 1.46 percent.
In the U.S., stock trading was mixed. For the day the Dow Jones Industrial Average was lower at 17895.88 for a loss of -22.74 points or -0.13 percent. The S&P 500 was also down, closing at 2097.90 for a loss of -1.83 points or -0.09 percent. The Nasdaq Composite closed higher at 4876.81 for a gain of 17.65 points or 0.36 percent.
Other notable index closes in the U.S. included the small-cap Russell 2000, higher at 1149.76 for a gain of 2.42 points or 0.21 percent; the S&P 600 closing at 705.56 for a gain of 1.25 points or 0.18 percent; the S&P 400 Mid-Cap Index closing at 1492.60 for a gain of 2.58 points or 0.17 percent; the Russell 3000 closing at 1236.12 for a loss of -0.35 points or -0.03 percent; and the Dow Jones U.S. Select Dividend Index closing at 607.79 for a loss of -3.99 points or -0.65 percent.
