Apple and Samsung Phone shipments increases
Global smartphone shipments by Apple and Samsung Electronics increased in the second quarter, as reported by a closely monitored industry tracker. However, their market shares declined due to the growing competition from Chinese rivals.
According to preliminary data from research firm International Data Corp., quarterly shipments of Apple’s iPhones increased by 1.5% from the previous year to reach 45.2 million units. Similarly, Samsung, the largest smartphone seller in the world, saw a 0.7% rise in shipments to reach 53.9 million units.
According to IDC, there was a 6.5% increase in global smartphone shipments, reaching a total of 285.4 million units.
According to IDC, Apple experienced a positive boost in its performance in various countries, including China. On the other hand, Samsung saw an increase in shipments due to its emphasis on flagship models and the integration of artificial intelligence into its products.
Global shipments of Apple and Samsung decreased slightly compared to last year, while Chinese companies experienced growth. Xiaomi experienced a growth in market share, increasing from 12.4% to 14.8% in the past year, according to IDC. Similarly, Vivo also saw an increase in market share, rising from 7.9% to 9.1%.
According to the data, Xiaomi experienced a 27% increase in global smartphone shipments, reaching a total of 42.3 million units. Vivo, on the other hand, saw a 22% growth in shipments, totaling 25.9 million units. This places them in the third and fourth positions, respectively.
According to Nabila Popal, a research director with IDC’s Worldwide Tracker team, Chinese smartphone makers are focusing on lower-end consumers in order to increase their market share, given the current weak demand.
