US Backs Philippines Against China’s Sea Claim

China’s proposal to establish a national nature reserve, which is situated in waters that are disputed between China and the Philippines, was deemed “destabilizing” by the United States. The United States extended its support to the Philippines in their resistance against China’s proposal. On Friday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio made the statement that the steps taken by the government in Beijing constitute “yet another coercive attempt to advance sweeping territorial and maritime claims in the South China Sea at the expense of its neighbors.”

On addition, stated that China’s actions on the shoal “continue to undermine regional stability.” Angelica Escalona, said on Saturday that the Philippine government had submitted a diplomatic complaint against China on Friday. It is “a strong, unequivocal, and formal articulation of Philippine objections to the Chinese action,” she said in a message that she sent to reporters via her cell phone.

Both the United States of America and the Philippines are providing their responses to a decision that was taken by the State Council, which is the cabinet of China. The request to establish a national nature reserve, which Beijing refers to as Huangyan Island, was accepted, according to an official notice that was published on Wednesday. The proposal was made by the Ministry of Natural Resources. Additionally, the Philippines asserts ownership of the shoal.

Even in the face of a verdict by an international tribunal in 2016 that invalidated such rights, China has been steadfastly pressing its claims in the seas of the South China Sea, which are rich in resources. According to Rubio, the United States of America strongly recommended that China respect the ruling that was made regarding the illegal acts that were conducted.
