Trump Reveals Bitcoin Price Breakthrough
Bitcoin and crypto prices have skyrocketed into 2026, with bitcoin approaching the $100,000 mark and gaining 10% since its December lows, coinciding with a significant $6 trillion crypto warning from Bank of America’s chief executive. The bitcoin price continues to linger significantly beneath its October high of $126,000, even as traders place their bets on a potential Federal Reserve shift in 2026. Goldman Sachs has indicated that a significant catalyst may soon spark the market, while U.S. President Donald Trump has remarked that the dovish economic adviser Kevin Hassett is unlikely to be appointed as the new Fed chair—a setback for the rising bitcoin price rally. Kevin Hassett is exceptional … if I were to move him, I would risk losing you. “It’s a serious concern to me,” Trump stated during an event at the White House.
“I actually want to keep you where you are, if you want to know the truth,” Trump stated, causing the Polymarket odds of Hassett being named as Fed chair Jerome Powell’s replacement to drop significantly and elevating his competitor, former Fed governor Kevin Warsh, to nearly 60%. In recent months, Trump has consistently indicated that he would appoint Hassett as the new Fed chair, with Hassett’s odds soaring to nearly 90% on Polymarket in December. Later, at another event in Florida, Trump revealed that he had made his decision regarding his nominee for Fed chair. “In my mind, done,” he stated.
Warsh, who has made investments in crypto companies and serves as an advisor to the institutional crypto bank Anchorage, is perceived as less dovish than Hassett. This suggests that if he is chosen as Trump’s pick, interest rates could remain elevated for an extended period. Anticipations surrounding a significant drop in interest rates in 2026, contingent on Trump taking over from Powell, have bolstered bitcoin, crypto, and equity markets in recent months.
Aurelie Barthere stated that Hassett would have been “more dovish than Kevin Warsh and therefore more supportive for crypto.” Earlier this week, Trump disclosed his inclination to nominate either Hassett or Warsh as Powell’s successor during an interview. “The two Kevins are very good,” Trump stated. “There are other talented individuals involved as well, but I’ll be making an announcement in the coming weeks.”
