Elon Musk and Satya Nadella twitter confrontation

Elon Musk and Satya Nadella find themselves in conflict once more, this time regarding the launch of GPT-5. Elon Musk, the chief of xAI, expressed his displeasure on Thursday following the release of OpenAI’s latest GPT-5 model, which he views as his biggest competition. Musk unleashed a series of posts in the subsequent hours, asserting that his company’s Grok 4 Heavy model stands as the “most powerful AI” model on the market.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella referred to the latest model as the “most capable model yet,” emphasizing enhancements in reasoning, coding, writing, and overall conversational abilities. Developed exclusively on Microsoft’s Azure model, GPT-5 aims to assist developers, businesses, and everyday users in more intuitive and productive manners. Nadella highlighted the swift advancement in technology, reflecting on the fact that GPT-4 made its debut at Microsoft’s Redmond campus merely two and a half years ago.

However, not everyone was in a celebratory mood. Musk remarked that GPT-5 is “underwhelming” when compared to his company’s Grok 4 model. In a recent post on X, he cautioned Nadella, “OpenAI is going to eat Microsoft alive,” asserting that Grok 4 is the most advanced AI currently available. He elaborated, stating that Grok 5 is currently in development and is anticipated to launch by the year’s end. Musk highlighted Grok’s new “Imagine” feature, which enables users to create both images and videos, and it will be offered at no cost. In contrast, competing platforms often restrict video generation features, such as OpenAI’s Sora, by placing them behind paywalls.

Nadella addressed Musk’s comments with his usual poise, stating, “People have been trying for 50 years and that’s the fun of it!” He stressed the significance of learning, innovation, partnerships, and competition. In a recent statement, Nadella expressed his anticipation for Grok 4’s operation on Azure, adding that he is already enthusiastic about Grok 5. “People have been trying for 50 years and that’s the fun of it!” Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new, innovate, partner, and compete. There is palpable excitement surrounding Grok 4 on Azure, with many eagerly anticipating the arrival of Grok 5! — Satya Nadella (@satyanadella) August 7, 2025

This exchange marks the latest chapter in the ongoing rivalry between the two tech titans. Musk has consistently voiced apprehensions regarding Microsoft’s growing relationship with OpenAI, reiterating his warning to Nadella about the dangers of becoming overly dependent on the ChatGPT creator. Microsoft and OpenAI have announced that GPT-5 introduces significant advancements across various domains, such as mathematics, writing, health, coding, and visual perception. The model is accessible at no cost to all ChatGPT users, while those who pay enjoy increased usage limits. The collaboration between Microsoft and OpenAI has resulted in the integration of GPT-5 into Microsoft’s platforms. OpenAI’s rollout might take several days to reach all users, but the model is already available through the Copilot website.
