Mother of Elon Musk’s child sues xAI for obscene photographs

An American novelist named Ashley St. Clair, who is also the mother of one of Elon Musk’s children, filed a complaint against his artificial intelligence company xAI on Thursday, accusing the company of making sexually explicit photos of her without first obtaining her approval. In the case that she filed, St. Clair claims that the artificial intelligence chatbot Grok is “unreasonably dangerous as designed” and constitutes a nuisance to the general public. In addition to this, she filed a petition for a temporary restraining order in order to stop Grok, used by xAI, from creating photos that show her naked.

According to St. Clair Grok obliged with the request of certain people to modify her photographs without her permission. Grok was happy to comply with the request. This struck her as shocking and caused her a great deal of distress. Through an open and honest communication with the chatbot, she voiced her disapproval of the modification or utilization of her photographs in this manner. In its response, the chatbot made it clear that the message was meant to be humorous and that it would not use or edit her photographs in the future without first obtaining her express permission. On the other hand, she maintains that this promise was not kept.

She also mentioned that some users had found old photographs of her from her younger years and asked the chatbot to modify them so that they showed her wearing a bikini. The chatbot complied with their request and altered the photographs. According to the allegations made in the lawsuit, the chatbot also generated a number of derogatory pictures of her when she was an adult. Several of the graphics featured messages of hatred and emblems of the Nazi party. “In one image, St. Clair, who is Jewish, is stripped and put in a string bikini covered with swastikas,” the lawsuit specifically noted. Grok, the chatbot that Musk’s xAI has developed, will no longer be allowed to produce or alter sexually explicit photographs of actual people on the social media platform X, according to an announcement made by Musk’s company on Wednesday. “We have implemented technological measures to prevent the Grok account from allowing the editing of images of real people in revealing clothing, such as bikinis. This restriction applies to all users, including paid subscribers,” according to the business statement.

In an effort to encourage responsibility, the firm has announced that the picture production tool would only be available to premium users. The platform was under increasing attention for its involvement in creating deepfake photos of women and girls in intimate circumstances without their knowledge, which led to the decision. This move came after weeks of public outcry, political pressure, and regulatory inquiries across numerous nations. At the beginning of this week, Malaysia and Indonesia took the momentous step of censoring Grok, citing worries over deepfakes made by artificial intelligence. It has been claimed that the government of India has asked clarification from X over the situation, which has resulted in the platform being subjected to inspection now in India.
