U.S. Market Futures Mixed as Investors Watch Election Factors

NEW YORK :

U.S. stock futures are mixed in premarket trading for Thursday, November 3. The Dow Futures are at 17894.0 for a gain of 13.00 points. The S&P 500 Futures are at 2091.75 for a loss of -0.50 points. The Nasdaq Futures are at 4704.75 for a loss of -12.00 points. The Russell Futures are at 1161.2 for a gain of 2.80 points.

In overnight trading in the Eastern Hemisphere, indexes in Asia Pacific were at the following:

Japan’s Nikkei 225 at 17134.68 for a loss of -307.72 points or -1.76 percent

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index at 22683.51 for a loss of -126.99 points or -0.56 percent

China’s Shanghai Composite at 3128.94 for a gain of 26.20 points or 0.84 percent

India’s S&P BSE Sensex at 27430.28 for a loss of -96.94 points or -0.35 percent

In Europe, indexes were at the following:

FTSE 100 at 6803.51 for a loss of -41.91 points or -0.61 percent

Germany’s DAX at 10370.47 for a loss of -0.46 points or -0.01 percent

France’s CAC 40 at 4437.93 for a gain of 23.26 points or 0.53 percent

Stoxx Europe 600 at 332.92 for a gain of 1.37 points or 0.41 percent

Thursday’s Factors and Events

Stocks are mixed on Thursday. Investors have less uncertainty about the Fed’s plans for monetary policy. However, the election is still a significant factor. Earnings appear to be positive with another positive technology report from Facebook on Wednesday.

Economic reports for Thursday include the following: Chain Store Sales, Jobless Claims, Productivity and Costs, PMI Services Index, Factory Orders, ISM Non-Mfg Index, Fed Balance Sheet and the Money Supply.

 U.S. market indexes were lower Wednesday for the seventh consecutive day of losses. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 17959.64 for a loss of -77.46 points or -0.43 percent. The S&P 500 closed at 2097.94 for a loss of -13.78 points or -0.65 percent. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 5105.57 for a loss of -48.01 points or -0.93 percent.

Other notable index closes included the small-cap Russell 2000 Index at 1162.52 for a loss of -1.31 percent; the S&P 600 Small-Cap Index closed at 705.68 for a loss of -0.99 percent; the S&P 400 Mid-Cap Index at 1479.30 for a loss of -0.98 percent; the S&P 100 Index at 931.69 for a loss of -0.71 percent; the Russell 3000 Index at 1236.99 for a loss of -0.75 percent; the Russell 1000 Index at 1161.08 for a loss of -0.70 percent; and the Dow Jones U.S. Select Dividend Index at 588.44 for a loss of -1.03 percent.
