U.S. Market Futures Higher after Slow Start to the Week

U.S. stock futures are higher in pre-market trading for Tuesday, October 4. The Dow Futures are at 18166.0 for a gain of 10.00 points. The S&P 500 Futures are at 2154.0 for a gain of 0.75 points. The Nasdaq Futures are at 4870.75 for a gain of 5.00 points. The Russell Futures are at 1244.1 for a gain of 1.00 point.

In overnight trading in the Eastern Hemisphere, Japan’s Nikkei 225 is at 16735.65 for a gain of 136.98 points or 0.83 percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index is at 23689.44 for a gain of 105.01 points or 0.45 percent. China’s Shanghai Composite is at 3004.70 for a gain of 6.22 points or 0.21 percent. India’s S&P BSE Sensex is at 28334.55 for a gain of 91.26 points or 0.32 percent. In Europe, the FTSE 100 is at 7098.89 for a gain of 115.37 points or 1.65 percent. Germany’s DAX is at 10555.80 for a gain of 44.78 points or 0.43 percent. France’s CAC 40 is at 4486.97 for a gain of 33.41 points or 0.75 percent. The Stoxx Europe 600 is at 345.53 for a gain of 2.30 points or 0.67 percent.

Tuesday’s Factors and Events

U.S. stocks are likely to regain some ground Tuesday after closing lower on Monday. Investors are less worried about Deutsche Bank and looking to fourth quarter earnings which are expected to improve from the third quarter.

The economic calendar is light on Tuesday with only the Gallup U.S. ECI report. U.S. Fed officials Jeffrey Lacker and Charles Evans will be speaking during the day.

U.S. market indexes were lower Monday. For the day the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 18253.85 for a loss of -54.30 points or -0.30 percent. The S&P 500 was also down, closing at 2161.20 for a loss of -7.07 points or -0.33 percent. The Nasdaq Composite closed lower at 5300.87 for a loss of -11.13 points or -0.21 percent.

Other notable index closes included the small-cap Russell 2000 Index at 1245.78 for a loss of -5.86 points or -0.47 percent; the S&P 600 Small-Cap Index at 754.24 for a loss of -2.66 points or -0.35 percent; the S&P 400 Mid-Cap Index at 1542.08 for a loss of -10.18 points or -0.66 percent; the S&P 100 Index at 956.16 for a loss of -2.52 points or -0.26 percent; the Russell 3000 Index at 1280.25 for a loss of -4.35 points or -0.34 percent; the Russell 1000 Index at 1198.31 for a loss of -3.94 points or -0.33 percent; and the Dow Jones U.S. Select Dividend Index at 610.93 for a loss of -3.85 points or -0.63 percent.
