Trump warns he may use military force in Greenland

After being rejected, Trump has stated that the use of military force in Greenland is still an option. In a statement released on Saturday, the Danish foreign minister criticized the Trump administration for its criticism of Denmark and Greenland. He stated that Denmark is increasing its investments in Arctic security and is open to working with the United States. Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen made the comments in a video that was shared on social media during the visit of Vice President JD Vance of the United States to the important island.

“I never take military force off the table” for Greenland, President Donald Trump of the United States of America said in an interview with NBC News later on Saturday. There are numerous allegations and assertions. The statement was made by Rasmussen in English: “We welcome criticism.” But if I may be so bold as to say it, we do not like the tone. To approach close allies in this manner is not appropriate. Even now, I believe Denmark and the United States to be close allies.

Greenland is under the sovereignty of Denmark, America’s NATO ally. The annexation of the land, according to Trump, is essential for maintaining national security. Trump stated in the interview that took place on Saturday that we could accomplish it without the use of military force. In response, he stated, “I don’t rule out anything.” In the interview with NBC, Trump stated that he did not care what message it would send to Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, who is attempting to consolidate his influence over Ukraine three years after his invasion of Ukraine.

As President Trump works to acquire Greenland, Vance stated on Friday that Denmark has not adequately invested in Greenland’s security and that the country ought to rethink its policy. Greenlanders and Danes protested that they were not consulted, which resulted in the trip being canceled. Vance, his wife, and other high officials from the United States of America went to Pituffik Space Base, which is located on the mineral-rich island of Greenland. On Friday, Vance made the following statement to Denmark: “You have failed Greenlanders.” This is our message to Denmark. The people of Greenland and the security architecture were not adequately invested in by you. There must be a change.

On Friday, Trump uploaded a video to Truth Social that showed United States forces stationed in Greenland during World War II. Vance advocated for Greenland to pursue independence from Denmark, stating that the United States of America must take a firm stance in order to guarantee Greenland’s safety. Vance is confident that they will cooperate with the United States. There is a better way to secure them. Significantly increased protection is attainable. I also believe that they would have better economic results.

The attempts made by the Trump administration to annex Greenland have enraged legislators and citizens, which makes the possibility of that happening less likely. Mette Frederiksen, the Prime Minister of Denmark, referred to her country as a powerful partner and refuted Vance’s assertion that Denmark is not doing enough to protect the Arctic. On Thursday, Greenlandic legislators came together to create a new government in order to combat the progress made by Trump. Four of Greenland’s five parties that were elected to parliament earlier this month will hold 23 of the country’s 31 seats, according to the combination of those parties.

The next day, Danish King Frederik X stated on Facebook that we are living in a reality that has also been altered. My love for Greenland and my connection to the people who live there are unbreakable principles. On Saturday, the United States of America’s (USA) Danish channel TV2 claimed that hundreds of demonstrators were present outside the United States Embassy in Copenhagen, with some of them lifting “back off” placards.

The national dogsled race of Greenland, known as Avannaata Qimussersu, was hampered as a result of this. The event started on Saturday with 37 mushers and 444 dogs. In spite of the fact that Usha Vance, the wife of the vice president, was due to be present at the race, her husband chose to go on a tour of the military station instead, which significantly reduced their chances of meeting Greenlanders.

In his video, Lkke Rasmussen recounted the defense treaty that Denmark and the United States met in 1951. Since 1945, he noted that the number of American soldiers stationed in Greenland has decreased from thousands of soldiers stationed at 17 different sites and installations to only 200 soldiers stationed at Pituffik Space Base in the northwest. The United States is able to enhance its military presence in Greenland, according to the foreign minister, because the 1951 deal “provides sufficient scope for their efforts.” Let’s have a conversation about it if you want it. According to Lkke Rasmussen, Denmark has increased its investments in northern defense. To ensure the safety of the Arctic region, Denmark pledged 14.6 billion Danish kroner (about $2.1 billion) in January. This investment will be used to purchase three new naval vessels, long-range drones, and satellites.
