HBO is bringing the life story of one of the world’s richest people to the small screen.
The network announced Wednesday it will air a documentary about Warren Buffett on Jan. 30, 2017. Becoming Warren Buffett will highlight the modest lifestyle of the 86-year-old investor, who runs the world’s fourth-largest public company, drives to work every day, and lives in a humble home in Omaha, Neb.
The documentary will tell the story of how Buffett transformed himself from a boy who struggled academically to become one of the richest men in the world. After being rejected by Harvard Business School, he was only accepted to Columbia after he discovered two of his financial idols, Ben Graham and David Dodd, taught there and wrote them a letter.
Buffett would eventually build his now $ 73 billion fortune at Berkshire Hathaway, then a struggling textile company that would become a holding corporation with stakes in Coca-Cola, Wells Fargo, and Heinz.
Buffett attributes his success to love of his work. “For over 60 years, I’ve been able to tap dance to work, doing what I love doing,” he tells high school students in Omaha as part of the documentary.
The documentary will also highlight Buffett’s philanthropy: He plans to give most of his fortune to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and along with Bill Gates, started the Giving Pledge in 2010 to encourage other wealthy individuals around the world to donate their fortunes.
