3:30 pm Market Closing: Equity benchmarks ended at record closing high ahead of long weekend for Christmas holiday.

The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 184.02 points at 33,940.30 and the 50-share NSE Nifty rose 52.70 points to 10,493.

About 1,556 shares advanced against 1,175 declining shares on the BSE.

3:25 pm Market Outlook: Ajay Srivastava of Dimensions Corporate Financial Services.

Gujarat elections was an inflection point. Next 12-18 months will be very important for the market as the government will announce policies carefully and positively.

One should not worry about returns and invest confidently as there would be positive mood at government.

“We don’t see populist Budget and no subsidy announcement. With the strong international standing, the responsible government can’t raise fiscal deficit,” he said.

The government will stay away from disruptive economic policies, he feels.

With the strong domestic economy, infrastructure sector will do well. One should stick to infrastructure space.

3:21 pm All sectoral indices traded in the green while the Nifty Volatility index fell 4.6 points to 11.5, which is positive for the market.

Dilip Bhat, joint MD at Prabhudas Lilladher said the momentum will continue but the Nifty to cross decisively above 10,700-10,800 requires strong support from corporate earnings and GDP growth.

3:15 pm The broader markets also participated in the rally as the BSE Smallcap and Nifty Midcap indices touched fresh record highs.

3:08 pm Market Update: Benchmarks indices remained strong in late trade, with the Sensex trading 165.85 points higher at 33,922.13, backed by technology, oil and banking & financial stocks.

The 50-share NSE Nifty rose 45.50 points to 10,485.80 while the market breadth was positive. About 1,491 shares advanced against 1,115 declining shares on the BSE.

3:00 pm Buzzing: GNA Axles (up 4 percent) and Kilburn Engineering (up 10 percent) are trading at day’s high while ONGC and Granules India extended rally to 3-4 percent.

2:45 pm Freight Rates: Freight rates for the nine-tonne payload section remained flat at the local truck transport market in the national capital today following easy availability of trucks.

Transporters said ample position of trucks along with adequate cargo movements kept freight rates around last levels.

2:22 pm Europe Trade: European markets were trading in the red, as investors digested the latest in political and economic news coming from the region.

The France’s CAC and Germany’s DAX were trading 0.2 percent lower.

2:10 pm Market Update: Equity benchmarks remained strong in afternoon, with the Sensex hitting fresh record high of 33,959.46.

The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 168.80 points at 33,925.08 while the 50-Nifty was up 42 points at 10,482.30.

About 1,539 shares advanced against 1,016 declining shares on the BSE.

The Nifty IT and PSU Bank were biggest gainers among sectoral indices, rising a percent each.

2:05 pm Govt investment in infra sector: The government has fixed at Rs 38,22,822 crore the revised projections for investment in infrastructure in the past five years.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in Lok Sabha that as per the NITI Aayog, the revised projection for investment in infrastructure in 2012-17 is Rs 38,22,822 crore, which is 1.6 times the investment of Rs 23,77,746 crore achieved in 2007-12 at current prices.

Jaitley said the government was very much conscious that the development of infrastructure is crucial to boosting growth and expanding services in the country.

2:00 pm Market Cap at new high: Total market valuation of all listed companies on BSE today touched a record high of over Rs 150 lakh crore helped by strong gains in the broader market.

Led by market gains, the market capitalisation (m-cap) of BSE-listed companies rose to Rs 1,50,80,323 crore (USD 2.35 trillion).

The Sensex has gained 7,309.07 points or 27.45 percent so far this year. The index had hit an all-time high of 33,956.31 on December 20 this year.

The total market valuation of all listed firms on BSE had hit Rs 100 lakh crore level on November 28, 2014.

1:44 pm Order Win: The consortium of Evergreen Power Mauritius and KP Energy won 30MW win power project to be set up in Gujarat at discovered tariff rate of Rs 2.43 per kWh, lowest rate so far.

1:33 pm Buyback: eClerx Services has informed exchanges that the board of directors today unanimously approved a proposal for buyback of equity shares for an aggregate amount not exceeding Rs 258 crore, being within 25 percent of the total paid-up equity capital and free reserves of the company as on March 31, 2017.

The buyback of shares will take place at a price not exceeding Rs 2,000 per share. Emkay Global Financial Services is the manager to buyback offer.

1:15 pm Market Outlook: “We believe that equities continue to be attractive as we step into 2018. We expect the elusive earnings growth to materialise during 2018. The overall economic growth should also recover from the lows of demonetisation and GST led interruption,” Prasun Gajri, Chief Investment Officer, HDFC Life said in an interview to Moneycontrol.com.

He expects to see the bad asset issue in the banking sector also getting resolved during the year. This is the backdrop of strong global growth and an uptick in global trade.

While the market may have done well in 2017, all these factors should make 2018 too an attractive year for equity investors, he said.

He further said the key risks are more than expected monetary tightening in developed economies, further up move in crude prices and politics driven uncertainty.

12:59 pm Market Check: Equity benchmarks continued to trade higher in afternoon, backed by positive global cues. All sectoral indices were in the green barring metals.

The 30-share BSE Sensex rose 166.54 points to 33,922.82 and the 50-share NSE Nifty gained 44.20 points at 10,484.50. The broader markets also traded in line with benchmarks.

About 1,574 shares advanced against 922 declining shares on the BSE.

Maruti Suzuki, Reliance Infrastructure, Infosys, Reliance Capital and Bharti Airtel were most active shares on the NSE.

12:45 pm Britannia in focus: Britannia Industries share price gained nearly 2 percent intraday after Motilal Oswal has reiterated its Buy call on the stock with increased target price at Rs 6,100 per share (from Rs 5,845 per share).

“We are enthused with Britannia’s consistent healthy performance in a difficult operating environment. Rapidly expanding distribution, continuing investment in R&D and significant expansion of its own manufacturing indicate management’s optimism about the growth prospects,” the research house said.

Lower unit packs of premium products continue to receive good response, aiding volume growth substantially and opportunity beyond biscuits is also substantially high, it added.

Continuing premiumization, significant incremental cost savings and a favourable commodity cost outlook mean that 15 percent EBITDA margin is now achievable, it feels.

12:30 pm ENIL gains 9% intraday: Motilal Oswal has upgraded Entertainment Network India to Buy from Neutral, with price target at Rs 910 per share as the stock looks attractive after recent correction.

The research house expects revival in advertising revenue in November-December 2017 and 14 percent revenue growth in Q3FY18.

New stations should break even by the next financial year and Ishq stations and untapped markets will help maintain dominance, Motilal Oswal said.

ENIL will spend Rs 300 crore in the next financial year to acquire TV Today’s frequencies in 3 Metros and on phase-3 auctions.

The research house expects revenue and EBITDA to grow at a compounded rate of 15 percent and 29 percent respectively by March 2020. Breakeven of new station should drive 15 percent EBITDA growth, it feels.

12:12 pm Motorcycle price increase: Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, said it would be increasing the ex-showroom prices of its motorcycles, starting January 1, 2018, to partially offset the rising input costs.

The price hike translates to about Rs 400 per model.

The exact quantum of the increase will vary, basis the model and the specific market, it said.

12:01 pm Wind Power Tariff: Wind power tariff dropped to an all-time low of Rs 2.43 per unit in an auction conducted by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) yesterday, boosting clean energy initiatives of the country.

“In an auction for 500 MW wind power capacities, the lowest tariff was quoted at Rs 2.43 per unit by Sprng Energy and K P Energy,” GUVNL MD Pankaj Joshi told PTI.

He further said Verdant Renewables, Betam Wind Energy and Powerica quoted tariff of Rs 2.44 per unit each while Renew Energy quoted a tariff of Rs 2.45.

Joshi said when the bids were opened, the lowest tariff was Rs 2.51 which dropped to Rs 2.43 in reverse bidding conducted later.

11:35 am TCS in focus: India’s leading IT exporter Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has bagged a USD 2.25-billion outsourcing contract from Nielsen, a television rating measurement firm.

The partnership, signed in October this year, is a renewal of TCS’ existing collaboration with Nielsen. The two companies had struck a 10-year deal in 2008 for USD 1.2 billion, which was expanded to USD 2.5 billion in 2013.

11:25 am Order Win: Steel Strips Wheels has bagged another exports order for supply of steel wheels for Egyptian passenger car market.

This order covers supplies of approximately 32,500 steel wheels, the company said.

Wheels will be shipped from Steel Strips Wheels’ Dappar plant from next month onwards.

10:55 am Stock falls post Clarification: Manappuram Finance shares declined nearly 2 percent after in its BSE filing, the management reiterated there is no truth in recent stories of a speculative nature appearing in the media to the effect that the company’s promoter, VP Nandakumar, is looking to sell his stake in the company or is on the verge of doing so.

This statement is being released by the company after a report by the business news channel mentioned that HDFC Bank, Edelweiss and IDFC Bank are in the fray to acquire the company.

10:40 am Edelweiss AUM Target: Edelweiss Mutual Fund is aiming at doubling the size of its assets under management (AUM) to Rs 25,000-30,000 crore by FY’19, a top official has said.

The company is also looking at organic growth by creating value propositions for investors with cutting-edge products that would be market leaders in their respective categories.

“Last month, our AUM crossed Rs 10,000 crore. By the end of the current fiscal, it will be around Rs 12,000-13,000 crore and the same will be between Rs 25,000-30,000 crore by FY’19,” the CEO of Edelweiss Asset Management Company (AMC), Radhika Gupta, told PTI.

As of March 2017, the AUM for Edelweiss was Rs 6,000 crore including the assets of JP Morgan AMC which it acquired in 2016.

The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 128.51 points at 33,884.79 and the 50-share NSE Nifty gained 34.80 points at 10,475.10.

About 1,533 shares advanced against 625 declining shares on the BSE.

ONGC, Tata Power, Bharti Airtel, Maruti Suzuki and Adani Ports were top gainers among Nifty 50, rising 1-2 percent.

Asian markets edged higher in the last day of trade before Christmas, tracking moderate gains made on Wall Street.

10:05 am Nifty Bank flat after RBI’s Financial Stability Report: The Reserve Bank has said gross non-performing assets in the system shot up to 10.2 percent as of the September quarter, primarily led by private sector lenders, and has warned that the situation will only aggravate from there, “elevating” the systemic risks.

In the half-yearly Financial Stability Report (FSR) put out late this evening, the central bank, however, said the financial system remains “stable” overall though it has pegged the bad loans spiking to 10.8 percent by the March quarter and to 11.1 percent by September 2018.

“The banking stability indicator (BSI) shows that the risks remain at an elevated level weighed down by further asset quality deterioration,” the FSR notes.

Overall, the stressed assets, including restructured loans and dud loans increased marginally to 12.2 percent during the same period from 12.1 percent.

9:55 am Rupee Trade: The rupee traded higher by 4 paise at 64.02 against the dollar today.

In the opening session, the domestic unit fell by 2 paise to 64.08.

Yesterday, it had ended higher by 5 paise at 64.06 because of greenback selling by exporters and banks.

9:40 am Order Win: Dilip Buildcon shares gained more than 4 percent intraday on bagging two EPC contracts valued at Rs 517.81 crore from Ircon International.

The road developer informed exchanges that Ircon International has declared L1 bidder for two projects in Karnataka – one is six-laning of Davanagere-Haveri section of NH-48 package 1B (6.85 km) and six-laning of Davanagere-Haveri section of NH-48 package 2 (40.37 km).

The first project is worth Rs 148.28 crore against bid price of Rs 157.23 crore and second is Rs 378.56 crore against bid price of Rs 360.58 crore.

Both projects will be completed in 24 months.

9:27 am Stake Sale: HDFC announced sale of its subsidiaries HDFC Realty and HDFC Developers to Quikr India in an all stock deal that will give the financial services conglomerate a stake in the online classified platform now valued at over Rs 10,000 crore.

According to sources, HDFC will get over 3 percent stake in Quikr India in lieu of sale of its stake in the two subsidiaries for Rs 357 crore.

9:21 am Buzzing: Canara Bank shares gained 1 percent after the state-owned lender decided to offload 4 percent stake in its housing finance subsidiary Canfin Homes Ltd (CFHL).

After the transaction, the bank’s holding in CFHL will come down to 26 percent, it said.

9:15 am Market Check: Equity benchmarks started off last day of the week on a positive note, with the Nifty reclaiming 10,450 level.

The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 73.79 points at 33,830.07 and the 50-share NSE Nifty gained 21.50 points at 10,461.80.

About 907 shares advanced against 260 declining shares on the BSE.

TCS was up nearly a percent after report indicated that the company renewed USD 2.25 billion deal with Nielsen till 2020 and also after Accenture earnings.

Aurobindo Pharma, L&T, Vedanta, Eicher Motors, HDFC Bank and UPL were early gainers while BPCL, Bajaj Auto, HCL Technologies, Bharti Infratel, Power Grid and ICICI Bank were losers.
Reliance Infrastructure, NHPC, PVR, Reliance Naval, Britannia Industries, DB Realty, Aditya Birla Money and Religare Enterprises rallied 2-20 percent.
