PREMARKET WORLD NEWS

Jun E-mini S&Ps (ESM17 +0.21%) this morning are up +0.20% before a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives on the passage of the American Health Care Act, the Republican’s plan to repeal and replace Obamacare. A speech from Fed Chair Yellen this morning is also in focus as she speaks at a Fed community development research conference in Washington. Strength in crude oil prices is also giving a boost to energy producing stocks with May WTI crude oil (CLK17 +0.56%) up +0.65%. European stocks are up +0.22% and found support from the monthly bulletin from the ECB that expressed confidence that growth momentum in Eurozone will be robust in Q1. MARKET COMMENTS

Jun E-mini S&Ps (ESM17 +0.21%) this morning are up +4.75 points (+0.20%). Wednesday’s closes: S&P 500 +0.19%, Dow Jones -0.03%, Nasdaq +0.66%. The S&P 500 on Wednesday recovered from a 1-1/4 month low and closed higher on some bargain hunting by fund managers after stocks on Tuesday posted their biggest decline since the November U.S. elections. There were also reduced interest rate concerns after the 10-year T-note yield fell to a 3-week low. Stocks were undercut by the -3.7% decline in U.S. Feb existing home sales to 5.48 million, weaker than expectations of -2.5% to a 5-month low of 5.55 million and by concern that the Trump administration’s tax-reform and infrastructure spending plans will be delayed unless the Republican health-care replacement bill gets passed by Congress.

Jun 10-year T-notes (ZNM17 -0.11%) this morning are down -4 ticks. Wednesday’s closes: TYM7 +8.00, FVM7 +5.25. Jun 10-year T-notes on Wednesday rose to a 3-week high and closed higher on the weaker-than-expected U.S. Feb existing homes sales report that fell to a 5-month low. T-notes were also supported by the sell-off in crude oil prices to a 3-3/4 month low, which reduced inflation expectations and sent the 10-year T-note break-even inflation rate down to a 3-month low. T-notes fell back from their best levels after stocks recovered early losses and moved higher.

The dollar index (DXY00 +0.07%) this morning is up +0.015 (+0.02%). EUR/USD (^EURUSD) is down -0.0006 (-0.06%) and USD/JPY (^USDJPY) is down -0.10 (-0.09%). Wednesday’s closes: Dollar index -0.136 (-0.14%), EUR/USD -0.0014 (-0.13%), USD/JPY -0.55 (-0.49%). The dollar index on Wednesday fell to a 1-1/2 month low and closed lower on the weaker-than-expected U.S. Feb existing home sales report and on the slide in T-note yields to a 3-week low, which weakens the dollar’s interest rate differentials.

May WTI crude oil prices (CLK17 +0.56%) this morning are up +31 cents (+0.65%) and May gasoline (RBK17 -0.12%) is +0.0006 (+0.04%). Wednesday’s closes: May crude -0.20 (-0.41%), May gasoline -0.0045 (-0.28%). May crude oil and gasoline on Wednesday closed lower with May crude at a 3-3/4 month low and May gasoline at a 1-week low. Crude oil prices were undercut by the +4.95 million bbl increase in EIA crude inventories to a record 533.1 million bbl, more than expectations of +3.0 million bbl, and by the +0.2% increase in U.S. crude production in the week ended Mar 17 to 9.129 million bpd, a 13-month high. Crude oil received support from the decline in the dollar index to a 1-1/2 month low.
